Youth Sport Nutrition offers Meal Replacements

Young athletes are at a greater risk of suffering from nutritional deficiencies than older sportspersons due to intensive training sessions, busy schedules, and rapid body growth. To address this, food tech startups are offering meal replacements. This includes protein powder and energy bars that specifically cater to the nutritional requirements of young athletes.

British startup Youth Sport Nutrition provides meal replacements for young athletes. Its product, PRO-TEEN, contains calcium, phosphorus as well as vitamins D, B12, and B6. Whereas, the startup’s gluten-free energy snack bar, NUTRI-TEEN, is designed to complement PRO-TEEN. Additionally, Youth Sport Nutrition develops YSN Kitchen mobile application that offers nutritional guidance and recipes to parents, coaches, and young athletes.

PowerAmp provides a Low Sugar Electrolyte Drink

People enrolled in high-intensity sports lose a lot of body fluid due to exercise-induced dehydration. This results in deterioration of performance as well as health complications. Besides, water is not enough to meet the needs of high-performance athletes as they lose water faster than their body absorbs the fluids. As a result, startups are making rehydration drinks that are easily absorbed by the body.

PowerAmp is a New Zealand-based startup that offers RAPID HYDRATE, a hypotonic low sugar electrolyte drink for athletes. It uses multiple component carbohydrate sources and, thus, provides a consistent and sustained energy source to power the active uptake of water into the tissues. Moreover, the carbohydrate promotes a greater volume of liquid uptake through the small intestine, thereby assisting athletes to improve sports performance and recovery.

Fast&Up makes Plant-based Superfoods

Intense exercise and sports activities often lead to increased production of lactic acid and cause acidosis in sportspersons. This results in muscle cramps as well as nausea and weakness, adversely affecting performance. To tackle this issue, food tech startups are making superfoods with alkalizing properties that maintain the pH balance of the body.

Indian startup Fast&Up provides plant-based superfoods and supergreens for athletes and fitness enthusiasts. Its product, Active Greens, is a powder that consists of extracts from wheatgrass, barley grass, alfalfa, and spirulina. It comes in various blends, including an alkalizing blend that fights acidity, a detox blend that eases digestion, and an antioxidant blend for immunity. These products enable athletes to maintain a healthy gut and boost immunity.

ZoneIn develops a Nutrition Management Platform

An athlete’s nutrient intake and diet schedule are very important for maintaining optimal performance. Hence, athletes avoid skipping meals or having unhealthy food. To facilitate this, food technology startups are designing nutrition management software. Such solutions guide athletes on what to eat, send timely notifications, as well as track nutrition intake and hydration schedule.

ZoneIn is a US-based startup that develops an AI-powered nutrition management platform. The platform builds an individualized nutrition schedule based on an athlete’s training schedule and specific body needs. Its Smart Meal tool suggests calculated meal options, guides when to eat, and sends alerts to keep them on track. Additionally, it sets a daily fluid target based on their training schedule, specific body needs, and sweat rate.

Eat My Ride supports Nutrition Planning

Like most athletes with varied regimens, a cycling athlete’s nutrient requirement may alter with each ride. Therefore, to assist them to focus on their training instead of worrying about the meals, startups are developing mobile applications that analyze each ride and suggest a food plan. Also, they connect to their fitness devices and send alerts on food or water intake.

Dutch startup Eat My Ride provides a nutrition planning app for cycling athletes. The users select their athlete profile and fill in the type of ride to customize their daily meals to the ride. The app then offers in-race nutrition planning by inputting the activity or route, average heart rate, as well as preferred drink and food product. Additionally, downloading its smartwatch widget allows the athletes to get the plan on their device to see intake alerts and drinking status during the rides.
