Which startups develop the other 459 Street Lighting Solutions?

 

Comlight – Adaptable LED Street Lights

The introduction of LED lights together with light- and motion- sensors enables the creation of autonomously adjustable streetlights. Lights brighten and dim corresponding to ambient light and to detected people or vehicles. This approach provides energy usage based on real-time demand. Norwegian startup Comlight develops motion-sensing street lights, which detect objects moving from ~2km/h to 200km/h. The light is lit and the detection is communicated to a set number of street lights providing full light, following the moving object on its way. After that, the lights dim down for energy saving when there is no one around.

Lightinus – Solar Street Lights

The utilization of sunlight to power street lights detaches lights from the utility grid thereby decreasing operational costs as well as installation costs, as there is no need for trenching and cabling. The Serbian company Lightinus produces modular solar street lights as an autonomous set for a new installation, or as a retrofit package for existing lights. Their solar street light is equipped with a battery for energy storage and a kinetic mat, which captures energy from people’s footsteps to generate additional power for the lights.

Vimoc – Smart Pedestrian Crosswalk Lights

Pedestrian crosswalk lights are integrated into the crosswalk road part and automatically switch on, when pedestrians are approaching and crossing their path, ensuring additional awareness of vehicles. The US-based startup Vimoc places cameras at specified locations facing crosswalks, walkways or vehicle/pedestrian shared space. The cameras detect the presence of pedestrians or cyclists and automatically actuate the crosswalk signage and lights – without the need to push a button.

Citintelly – Street Lights Network Control System

Lighting control systems visualize data from street lights’ controllers in a web interface which allows for monitoring and to take action in real-time in case of a malfunction. Further, controllers can configure lighting segments, for example, to increase street brightness during mass events or to analyze operation modes to increase energy consumption efficiency. The Latvian company Citintelly offers a package solution for existing lighting networks, consisting of wireless controllers and sensors. This enables lights to connect to a cloud-based street lighting management system with monitoring, profiling, notifications, and remote control features. It supports the TALQ protocol specifications and allows for controlling TALQ compatible lighting networks from different vendors.

Ubicquia – Street Lights For Small Cells

An existing street lights infrastructure allows wireless transmission systems to use lamp posts both as power sources and transmission towers to build small cell network for LTE advanced and 5G deployments. The US-based startup Ubicquia provides plug-and-play installation, consisting of an omnidirectional antenna and NEMA socket plug. The products’ Qualcomm architecture delivers enhanced mobile broadband, supports fiber, Ethernet, broadband powerline and wireless backhaul.
