iTrazo Tracetech offers End-to-End Traceability

Food-borne illnesses are common and affect a huge portion of the world population. Food spoilage not only influences public health but also is a reason for huge losses in the food industry. Food spoilage is preventable through continuous monitoring throughout the supply chain by the producers and suppliers. Also, transparency helps assure consumers about the quality of the food. Startups innovate traceability solutions for food packaging that enable companies to monitor real-time their supply chain insights.

iTrazo Tracetech is an Australian startup that offers end-to-end traceability solutions for the agriculture sector. The startup’s traceability platform, iTrazo ADI, provides unique encrypted keys to enable businesses to take full control of their supply chain. It uses quick response (QR) codes, near-field communication (NFC), radio frequency identification (RFID), and the Internet of Things (IoT) to track products throughout the supply chain. Further, the active digital identity linked to each product also allows brands to increase their consumer engagement. The startup offers traceability solutions for FMCG, pharmaceutical, and fashion industries.

ZealSeal makes RFID-based Authenticity Labels

With counterfeiters adopting advanced techniques to create fake products, it is harder for present-day consumers to distinguish between counterfeit goods and original offerings. Brands suffer due to loss of profits and reputation because of such fraudulent activity. Stealing sales, ruining the brand reputation, and deteriorating trust among consumers are some of the impacts of counterfeiting. Startups further anti-counterfeiting initiatives by developing smart dynamic labels that are hard to clone and help consumers pick the original products.

US-based startup ZealSeal develops RFID-based authenticity labels for manufacturers. The labels, when attached to a product, serve as an authenticity certificate. The startup’s proprietary technology makes its smart labels dynamic. Consumers identify ZealSeal certified products and scan them using the ZealSeal app on NFC-enabled smartphones. The application verifies the smart label against the secure server. If the label is found to be authentic, the app displays the product information to the user, otherwise, it recommends against the purchase.

TelefieldRFID enables Packaging Inventory Management

Packaging inventory management is a tedious task often prone to inaccuracy. Companies of all sizes look for ways to streamline their operational efficiency by adopting new technologies. The usage of RFID tags on packaging improves both the efficiency and accuracy of inventory management. The tags contain microchips, are easily scannable, and require less labor. Startups manufacture RFID tags that enable companies to smartly manage their inventory.

Chinese startup TelefieldRFID is an RFID manufacturer that provides inventory management solutions. The RFID asset management system allows dynamic tracking of assets and a large amount of data acquisition. The startup manufactures RFID sticker tags, RFID anti-metal tags, and RFID fragile tags. They are further categorized as low-frequency RFID chips (125 kHz), high-frequency RFID chips (13.56 MHz), and ultra-high frequency RFID chips (860~960 MHz). Since the reading distance is far away for ultra-high frequency chips, the information transmission rate is fast, allowing the simultaneous identification of a large number of tags. Hence, it is especially suitable for logistics and supply chain management.

PillTracker provides Pharmaceutical Packaging

One of the biggest challenges in outpatient treatment and drug development is medication adherence. Patients frequently struggle to take their medication on time or forget to take it altogether, and doctors are not informed of this information in a timely manner. Drug overdose is another big problem with dangerous consequences. Startups develop pharmaceutical packaging solutions for monitoring the medication intake by patients so that emergency incidents could be avoided.

PillTracker is an Israeli startup that offers an innovative adherence system to help doctors and patients to manage medication consumption. PillTracker’s technology for smart packaging is based on a printed electronics layer that is applied to the pharmaceutical manufacturer’s blister packaging post-production. By eliminating complex electronics, it allows for more reliable reading of the medication, while removing the need to tamper with existing packaging or production lines.

Autentico develops Anti-Counterfeit Packaging

The rising parallel market of counterfeit alcohol poses a threat to public health. Therefore, startups design printed electronics, particularly NFC-enabled anti-counterfeiting systems (NAS), for the luxury goods business, such as alcoholic drinks. They pursue the goal of protecting these products’ provenance and authenticity from counterfeits through product pedigree, transaction records, and supply chain integrity.

Autentico develops an innovative anti-counterfeiting system, applicable to most major products – from the food sector to the clothing area, but with a distinct focus on wine. It involves the application of unique and non-duplicable electronic labels (NFC), for the identification of original products. These labels contain the authenticity information for each product and are readable by any smartphone equipped with NFC technology and the authentic app. During the reading of the product and the tag through the authentic NFC app, the position of the product is memorized and all the readings can be viewed by the manufacturer through the appropriate reserved area.
