Who are the other 70 Functional Packaging Startups?

LiquiGlide – Slippery Coating

A new coating technology can get every last bit of the product out of its container. Thereby, billions of tons of wasted product can be saved. It’s a ubiquitous problem for consumer products and personal care products. But it also concerns entire industries ranging from the chemical to the energy industry. The US-based startup LiquiGlide offers a technology platform that allows engineering super slippery surfaces for liquids and highly viscous materials such as gels and pastes. It changes the way liquids move over solids in order to eliminate food waste and enhance recycling.

Ifoodbag – Regelation Packaging

Everyday food is turned to waste by high temperatures. Energy is then lost on expensive cooling methods. Consumers need a simpler and more sustainable way to keep things cold. A smart paper composite material locks in the cold and keeps food frozen and fresh for up to 24 hours. Sweden-based Ifoodbag develops an intelligent cooling bag that locks in the cold and prevents condensation issues. It can be equipped with a cooling element to keep the right temperature for a longer period of time. It is made of a paper composite material that is reusable, recyclable and sustainable.

The 42 Degrees Company – Self-Heating Packaging

Products are oriented at people who do not have access to hot and nutritious food, as well as for people on the move who want to enjoy a hot drink and its benefits. The Spanish startup The 42 Degrees Company provides self-heating cans which increase the temperature by 42° when activated – no matter the starting temperature. The recyclable can takes three minutes to heat up and keeps the temperature for up to 20 minutes.

Tablebox – Convenient Fast Food Packaging

Being busy often means food needs to be consumed on-the-go. Eating fast food in the car or stadium creates problems such as spilled food on the floor, stains on car seats and on clothes. User-friendly packaging is needed in many situations when carrying or eating food and beverages on-the-go isn’t convenient. Denmark-based startup Tablebox supplies solutions for the fast food industry, focussing on creating smarter and user-friendlier packaging while enjoying food-on-the-go. It is a combined box and lap tray, that serves as a container for transporting fast food and adds convenience to enjoy a meal, without having a table nearby.

GreenBoxNY – Multi-Functional Package

Multi-functional packaging can be transformed into other forms such as plates, boxes, containers, etc. They can then also be used for storing leftovers, or to serve as dishes for example. New York-based startup GreenBoxNY offers an improved packaging design, which lessens waste and improves the lives of consumers as well as being environmentally friendly. Their multi-functional GreenBox breaks into plates & a storage unit for leftovers. The box is made from 100% recycled and recyclable corrugated cardboard.
