Petzyo offers Grain-free Dog Food

Developments in human food such as new formulations and alternative recipes also trickle down to pet food and livestock feed. Leveraging these, startups offer a wide range of cat and dog food. For instance, grains often cause allergies and gut imbalance in dogs. To address this, food startups are creating grain-free dog food alternatives.

Australian startup Petzyo delivers grain-free dog food for raw feeding. The startup’s Kibble That Counts dog food comes in single meat flavors, such as salmon, kangaroo, and turkey, with all the micronutrients required for a healthy dog diet. The startup also provides special raw patties for active or overweight dogs. Petzyo’s solutions improve digestive health, as well as enhance brain function.

PledgeCare creates Human-grade Pet Food

Feeding natural and healthy diets to pets provides health benefits such as a healthy weight and high energy levels. Pet owners, more aware of this now, are looking for healthier alternatives to pet food. This is why there has been an increased demand for human-grade pet food in recent years. While loosely defined, the term defines pet food that undergoes the same safety and quality standards as human food.

PledgeCare is a Malaysian startup that provides human-grade pet food for cats and dogs. The startup’s chicken recipe for cats includes 98% chicken meat, bones, and organs, with superfoods accounting for the rest. It provides healthy nutrition to cats, making their bones stronger and coats shinier. Using human-grade chicken or fish and eliminating artificial preservatives ensures that the startup’s recipes do not cause any allergies to the pets.

Phytosmart provides Functional Pet Food

Omega-3 fatty acids found in seafood prevent chronic health conditions in humans and pets alike. However, our bodies do not produce them, necessitating the consumption of seafood or supplements such as fish oil. However, fish oil often becomes toxic and doesn’t provide adequate nutrients for pets. To address this, food startups are formulating functional foods to address the nutritional deficiency of Omega-3.

Phytosmart is a US-based startup producing functional pet food. The startup grows golden algae, a species that produces large amounts of docosahexaenoic acid (DHA), in a sterile growing system. It then formulates SmartZYME, a grain-free functional food rich in DHA, a crucial Omega-3 fatty acid. The startup’s functional food improves the vitality, metabolism, cognition, and memory of pets.

Enrma Petfood produces Insect-based Pet Food

A major concern with using chicken or fish as the protein source in pet food is it causes gastrointestinal complications in certain pets. Insect protein generally doesn’t have this problem. Moreover, growing insects as a food source have a lower carbon footprint than producing meat. This is why pet food brands are incorporating insect proteins in their recipes.

French startup Entoma Petfood offers insect-based pet food. The startup utilizes mealworms and black soldier fly larvae grown in specialized farms. The insects transform leftover cereal and fruit and vegetable waste into protein-rich insect powder. The startup’s range of pet food provides hypoallergenic and sustainable nutrition for cats and dogs.

Bella & Duke develops Probiotic Supplements for Pets

Digestive issues are common in many dog and cat breeds. To address this, pet owners need to supplement their pets’ diet with probiotic supplements. Probiotics fight infections in the gut, strengthen the immune system and promote digestive action. Consequently, food startups and scaleups offer a wide range of probiotic supplements for pets.

British startup Bella & Duke provides pet probiotic supplements. FidoSpore, the startup’s supplement, is a combination of Bacillus and Pediococcus bacteria mixed with defatted, grass-fed beef liver. Available for both cats and dogs, it reduces leaky gut as well as improves the overall digestive health. Moreover, the startup offers pet food recommendations based on the breed and size of the pets.
