Who are the other 145 Tamper-Evident Packaging Startups?

Optrace – Tamper-Evident Holograms

Tamper-proof labels are used for providing security and authentication to a product. It cannot be removed from the product without destroying it – a property that makes any item highly secure.

Irish startup Optrace specializes in the production of serialized holographic labels for anti-counterfeiting and brand identification. The hologram is fixed to the packaging in the form of a tamper-evident label. The company offers a reflective or transparent hologram which can be personalized in terms of text, logos, and numbers that are machine- and human-readable.

Safelain – Visual Indicators

Self-expiring packaging changes the color or exposes warning symbols if the condition of a product is not appropriate or its expiration date has passed.

The US-based startup Safelain‘s natural packaging solution is able to indicate oxidation and therefore expiration using an isolated pigment. The packaging changes its color once oxidation occurs as it is calibrated to match the oxidation rate of the packed product. The company’s product can be blended, coated, or applied to an independent vessel (packaging) and responds to levels of moisture, oxygen, temperature, and radiation.

Evigence – Climate-Stable Packaging

Freshness indicators and sensors give a clear signal about the condition of a product, based on temperature and environment. Visual indicators change color temperature-dependent, closely matching the actual behavior of the packaged product. The higher the temperature is, the faster the color changes.

Israeli startup Evigence develops Time Temperature Indicators (TTI) that indicate the true shelf-lives of products. The company’s labels can be calibrated to match different time frames, ranging from hours to years.

NOOS TECHNOLOGIES – Security of Things (SCoT)

Counterfeits reach end-consumers primarily through package reuse. This is why manufacturers and shippers are unable to detect counterfeits in the supply chain. To mitigate this, some startups offer digital signature generation solutions for labels and packages. Since they are unique for each product, any tampering with the product is identified.

Indian startup NOOS TECHNOLOGIES develops a SCoT network to tackle counterfeiting and product or package tampering. The startup uses proprietary technology, RUDS, to auto-generate unique digital signatures for labels or packages. Due to this, it generates a different signature even if the same label is used on the same package. This, in turn, allows companies to promptly identify label reuse or package tampering.

SECURtracers – On-Dose Authentication

Current anti-counterfeit strategies are mostly focused on packaging alone. Authenticating not only the packaging but also the product addresses the problem of counterfeiting, diversion or substitution of products and helps to fight counterfeiters.

The already established company SECURtracers offers a covert, edible, on-dose and on-packaging authentication solution for multi-layered brand protection and anti-counterfeit strategy. It allows for the verification of a drug product ‘on-the-spot’ at the dose level, even when separated from its original packaging.
