Which startups develop the other 301 solutions?

TrafficButter – Reducing Traffic Congestions

Every major city and even some smaller cities face frustrating and time-consuming traffic jams and congestions. Given that cities are constantly expanding, startups from around the world have focused their attention on traffic management in cities. Solutions vary from connected navigation and real-time traffic information systems to solutions based on society-centered community mapping applications. Nigerian startup TrafficButter develops software to create mapping and navigation services. Their proprietary mobile application software allows citizens to create and update traffic maps, interact with each other using text messaging services, and to receive real-time notifications regarding changes in road and traffic conditions.

Surtrac – Smart Traffic Lights

Although the number of vehicles on the road have significantly increased, most cities still use traditional, time-based traffic lights. Keeping up with innovations in other road technologies, like smart roads, smart mobility, etc., smart traffic lights do more than just regulating the flow of traffic. Solutions enable the collection of various traffic data using the Internet of Things (IoT) sensors and devices to track, analyze, and optimize traffic lights for different locations, road types and based on the time in a day. The USA-based startup Surtrac develops software to integrate data collected from existing and newly-installed IoT sensors and devices to analyze, optimize, and schedule traffic lights, in real-time, with the help of their proprietary Artificial Intelligence (AI) planning system, adjusting the lights with changes in traffic or time of day.

Nedap – Smart Parking

As the number of vehicles driving inside the city increase, startups are solving for citizens to find parking for their vehicles in various hubs of the city. There are numerous innovations in smart parking solutions, from automatic vehicle identification to IoT sensors that monitor vacant spaces. Dutch company Nedap specializes in solutions for the mobility sector, including for smart parking. Their solution utilizes long-range Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) readers and Automatic Number Plate Recognition (ANPR) sensors for recognizing vehicles and processing parking fees automatically. The company’s Sensit product, on the other hand, uses ground parking sensors to analyze the occupied and vacant parking spaces to guide vehicles to their parking spots.

Signal Labs & SWARCO – Road Safety

Traffic accidents account for more than one million deaths and over twenty million injuries every year. All over the world, various organizations are coming up with innovative solutions to significantly reduce these numbers. New methods and technologies to improve road safety such as smart traffic lights, connected vehicles, and smart infrastructure along with vehicle-to-infrastructure (V2I) solutions, try to predict and prevent potential road accidents. The USA-based startup Signal Labs, in partnership with a traffic lights and signage company, SWARCO, are developing a network of smart interactive signs which deliver notifications to drivers with minimal distraction. Drivers get notifications regarding dangerous road intersections, pedestrian crossings, and accidents. They analyze large volumes of publicly available data from police reports, the geometry of roads, traffic congestion levels, pedestrian activity, and any other information which may be relevant for making roads safer.
