Who are the other 254 Grid & Power Management Startups?

BluWave-ai – AI For Distribution Optimization

Artificial Intelligence-based solutions for the optimization of electricity distribution provide both environmental and grid benefits. More efficient use of renewable energy decreases greenhouse gas emissions relative to power derived from traditional sources. The grid benefits include improved grid resilience and protection of the local energy supply from extreme weather and cyber attacks and reduced exposure to volatility in the global energy supply market. Canada-based BluWave-ai develops a SaaS-based AI-powered grid energy optimization platform. BluWave-ai Edge at utility substations aggregates information from the substation service area, providing AI-assisted predictions of demand at the substation level, predictions of upcoming peaks and optimization recommendations to assist in improving stability and smoothing peaks. At the utility back office, the BluWave-ai Center manages customers in the network using predictions from BluWave-ai Edge and pushing requests and alerts for load shaping.

Envelio – Grid Network Planning & Operation

For a successful energy transition, millions of new solar panels, wind turbines, and EV charging points have to be integrated into power grids. As a consequence, planning and operation of the grids become increasingly complex. Startups develop digital assistance systems that support distribution grid operators in planning and operating power systems with high shares of renewables. German Envelio offers the Intelligent Grid Platform, a modular software assistance system that supports distribution grid operators in digitizing and automating grid planning and grid operation processes. For this purpose, the Intelligent Grid Platform provides 12 dedicated applications such as assessing new connection requests for generators and loads or carrying out comprehensive stress tests for future supply tasks in the grid.

NovoGrid – Real-Time Grid Monitoring

Software for real-time grid monitoring allows determining remote network conditions in real-time. These solutions can be decentralized, meaning that they can be configured for each specific location based on local network characteristics. Dublin-based NovoGrid offers a software solution that enables wind farms to reduce the cost of delivering their energy production to the electricity grid. GridViz requires only three local grid measurements (MW, MVAr and kV). From these measurements, GridViz can determine remote network conditions at a specified point of interest, e.g. an upstream power line, with an accuracy of over 99%.

Grid4C – Fault Predictions For Grid Assets

Electricity grid predictive analytics solutions use advanced machine learning capabilities to enable electric utilities to optimize profits, forecast for future load growth on the grid at any level of granularity, and predict failures and faults of grid equipment to save time and money. Grid4C, a startup from Texas, USA, develops plug and play AI software that analyzes billions of meter reads at the grid edge to deliver millions of daily predictions for energy providers, their customers, and the utility grid. Grid4C’s algorithms detect, diagnose, and, in many cases, predict malfunctions and inefficiencies for assets on the grid, without the installation of expensive hardware.
