myPolis – Citizen Engagement & Gamification

Engaging citizens in the day-to-day decision-making processes allows local authorities to gain trust, and create value for the people. Technology allows people to voice their thoughts during discussions for potential infrastructure or cultural projects, to propose new initiatives for improving their standard of living, to vote on policy drafts, and to participate in numerous advisory polls. Portugal-based startup myPolis develops a whole suite of applications to foster co-operation between citizens and government authorities. Their aim is to contribute to the goals of Democracy 4.0 by allowing citizens to vote on proposed laws and plans made by local authorities. Further, gamification elements of their applications enhance citizen experience with rewards for actively engaging in important socio-economic and political initiatives.

Ifinity – Infrastructure Accessibility Services

With new and exciting infrastructure being developed and constructed in cities, it is vital to remain inclusive while focusing on convenience and innovation projects. Marginalized communities should also benefit from the city’s public spaces, parks, market squares, and other facilities. By leveraging innovative technology and solutions such as beacons, voice guidance, and hearing assistant apps, startups targeting inclusivity in infrastructure help such individuals experience all that the city has to offer. Poland-based startup Ifinity develops urban technological solutions for visually impaired individuals. They work with local authorities to install a network of interconnected beacons on top of existing infrastructure like public spaces and public transport, which then work together to assist citizens in navigating their way around the city, by using the city’s transportation service systems and providing several other support services.

OnSeen – Recruitment For Public Works

Smart cities and their governments need to leverage high-tech recruitment platforms to find the necessary workers to take part in city-wide and local government initiatives, concerts, charity events, community discussions, construction initiatives, and employment opportunities. USA-based startup OnSeen develops data analytics and management platforms for local governments, among others. Their mobile government technology solution allows authorities to improve their hiring process for the government or for state-funded projects. Their product simplifies a contractor’s recruitment and on-boarding process while continuously providing analytics-based insights on the project.

Comuni-Chiamo – City Management

Unchecked and haphazard growth in large, ever-growing, and resource-hungry cities has accelerated the need to implement technology solutions in government operations. These solutions form a complex ecosystem of products that encompass various city management functions such as detection and prevention of crime, efficient utilization of energy, supplying clean water, and collection and recycling of wastes. Italy-based startup Comuni-Chiamo develops a city management platform, powered by cloud-based technologies, that allows local governments to analyze data related to various sectors of the city and take action on the various challenges, from waste management to installing emergency and accidents alert systems.
