Which startups develop the other 90 solutions?

The Batteries – Lithium-Ion Batteries

The growing demand for consumer electronic devices like smartphones, tablets, laptops, digital cameras, and home devices poses the challenge of upgrading, improving and enhancing existing Lithium-ion batteries, used widely in this sector. One approach utilizes thin-film technology for producing solid-state Li-ion batteries to eliminate additives and achieve a high-crystallinity composition for battery storage.

Polish startup The Batteries manufactures rechargeable thin-film Li-ion batteries based on patented vacuum evaporation technology enhanced by particularly dense plasma. With a high crystallinity cathode deposition, the company’s solution possesses enhanced capacity and safety along with a low risk of explosions, when compared to conventional Li-ion batteries.

Ateios – Silver-Oxide Batteries

Silver-oxide batteries solve the problem of combining high performance, sufficient volumetric energy density, leakage resistance, and non-flammability within a limited space – common for small electronic devices like watches, cameras, wearables, and precision medical devices. Besides, these types of batteries do not contain mercury, which makes them significantly safer for consumer applications.

The USA-based startup Ateios produces flexible, ergonomic, and ultra-thin printed silver-oxide batteries for wearables. The company strives to make them stretchable and customizable enough for the human body. The solution utilizes a zinc silver-oxide chemistry, combined with screen-printing, or roll-to-roll techniques, so as to create durable, safe and cost-effective batteries for future-looking devices.

Zinergy – Zinc-Carbon Batteries

Zinc-carbon batteries still play an important role in the consumer electronics market because of relatively low costs, greater conductivity from carbon-enhanced technology, and a proven track record. Modern technologies aim for the low-temperature operations and rechargeability of zinc-carbon batteries.

British startup Zinergy develops ultra-thin and lightweight rechargeable zinc-carbon batteries for wearables, smart cards, smart textile, interactive printed media, and biosensors. They utilize engineered ink to custom design battery storage solutions in terms of shape, size, and thickness.

Relicell – Lead-Acid Batteries

Modern-day lead-acid batteries are used for powering electric vehicles, and this type of storage is applicable for consumer electronic devices as well. Their low maintenance requirements, high resistance to corrosion, overcharging, and gassing, along with their low rate of self-discharge, lead-acid batteries serve well as backup power for personal computers.

Indian startup Greenvision Technologies operates under the brand name Relicell and manufactures maintenance-free, sealed lead-acid batteries for Uninterrupted Power Supply (UPS) devices and electronic weighing machines. The solutions are leakage-proof, possess a low rate of self-discharge and ensure satisfactory operations despite variations in temperature.
