HEYLO manufactures Natural Sweeteners

Sugar is a staple in most diets but is often detrimental to health. High sugar consumption results in the accumulation of fat which leads to fatty liver disease, diabetes, and other severe risks. As the primary purpose of sugar is purely to enhance taste, startups are creating natural sweeteners as substitutes that provide the taste of sugar without its health risks.

Israeli startup HEYLO provides a natural alternative to processed sugar. The startup’s product has a zero glycemic index, is safe for diabetics, and is a gut-health-friendly prebiotic with the same taste and flavor profile as processed sugar. Additionally, the product consists of only two natural ingredients, organic stevia and all-natural dietary fibers from the acacia tree. It is also free of allergens, making it a safe and healthy sugar substitute.

AromaColors provides Confectionary Flavor Blends

One of the most important aspects of food is taste. Consumers use herbs, spices, oleoresins, and essential oils to enhance it. However, commercial businesses require expensive ingredients and time-consuming preparations to stand out from the competition. This is why food startups are offering additives that constitute flavor and color blends to enrich the quality of food with lower effort and cost.

Polish startup AromaColors produces and distributes high-quality food additives. The startup’s flavor and color blends use combinations of either natural or natural-identical flavors and natural colors. They are both available as liquid or powder. Their main focus is to provide restaurants, bakeries, and patisseries with a line of natural and low-calorie flavor and color blends.

eSense-Lab offers Cannabis Flavor Additives

The development of natural flavor additives involves the reconstruction of chemical compounds found in plants. This process allows manufacturers to create unique flavor profiles that match the taste, texture, or aroma of their artificial counterparts without their negative effects. However, it is complex and challenging, which is why startups are specializing in the production of plant-based flavor additives.

eSense-Lab is an Australian startup that develops cannabis flavor additives. The startup’s reverse-engineered cannabis terpene profiles are completely natural, contain no active ingredients, and replicate the flavor, fragrance, and medicinal properties of cannabis. Its line of terpene profiles finds use in plant-based products with commercial and medicinal applications for multiple markets and is ready for mass production.

Apura Ingredients manufactures Nutraceutical Sweeteners

Most modern sweeteners, flavoring agents, and ingredients negatively impact health and prioritize taste and texture profiles. Natural substitutes or ingredients, on the other hand, tend to result in nutraceutical products. These products, however, are unrefined, abrasive, or hard, making them unappealing to consumers even though they promote health, wellness, and immunity. To mitigate this, startups are developing artificial sweeteners that promote taste while eliminating the health risk to consumers.

US-based startup Apura Ingredients manufactures a range of artificial sweeteners. The startup’s sweeteners include allulose or d-psicose, which is a monosaccharide sugar that has the functional benefits of sucrose but with low-calorie content. Additionally, it has a minimal effect on blood sugar and insulin as it does not metabolize like sugar. This enables it to be used as an ingredient to create nutraceuticals with improved palatability for senior-care meal supplements.

Cape Crystal Brands produces Emulsifiers

Emulsifiers are additives that keep food products moist or greasy and are used to mix fat-soluble substances with water. However, artificial emulsifiers present the risk of damage to the intestine which results in inflammation and disease. This is why startups are creating additives that replace artificial emulsifiers without risks of internal organ damage.

Cape Crystal Brands is a US-based startup that provides a range of functional, taste-enhancing, and nutritional ingredients from natural sources. The startup’s vegan range of natural emulsifiers exhibit gelling, thickening, and stabilizing properties, making it suitable for food products such as cheese, mayonnaise, and yogurt. These products provide molecular gastronomists and modernist cooks with a vegan and kosher alternative to bovine gelatin.
