Which startups develop the other 40 solutions?

Goodly Innovations – Extended Reality For Shop Floor Guidance

Pharma 4.0 is an evolution of pharmaceutical manufacturing that implements Industry 4.0 in its production processes. Resources, such as the workforce, require continuous learning and development to achieve factory-level efficiencies. With the help of augmented reality (AR), startups are now working on solutions for improving pharma manufacturing productivity.

German startup Goodly Innovations develops an AR suite, OptiworX, for pharma and biopharma manufacturing. The solution enables technicians and line operators to increase their productivity and efficiency by prompting various tasks in real-time, in an AR environment. The startup’s modular design allows for both standalone systems and as connected systems, enabling two-way data flow. Additionally, this suite supports all shop floor processes like manufacturing, filling, primary packaging, and secondary packaging.

QbDVision – Knowledge Management Solution For Drug Development

With the advancements in technology, the drug development processes today make use of artificial intelligence (AI) algorithms and machine learning to analyze and assess large datasets. As a result, pharma companies are able to bring their products to the market faster. Efficient time-to-market provides companies with a competitive edge, prompting startups to develop innovative AI-based solutions for the pharma industry.

The US-based startup QbDVision provides cloud-based software solutions for pharma companies to improve the drug development process. The software assesses the risk involved in each stage of drug development. The startup enables pharmaceutical manufacturers to create their Target Product Profile (TPP) based on the US-FDA regulations. Later, based on the TPP, the manufacturing process is defined and executed. Further, the software allows for the continuous visualization of the processes in the long term.

Electrosan Technologies – Process & Factory Automation

Digital transformation is set to play a key role in the future of manufacturing. The importance of data and the ability to gather useful insights enable in improving the pharmaceutical manufacturing process. Also, with the help of sensors and other data processing systems, startups are working on various continuous monitoring and automation solutions.

Indian startup Electrosan Technologies offers process and factory automation solutions for the pharma industry. The internet of things (IoT)-enabled sensors and predictive functions allow manufacturers to carefully monitor production costs, operational efficiency, and downtimes. These automation solutions are also compliant with 21 CFR (Code of Federal Regulations) of the FDA and GAMP 5 (Good Automated Manufacturing Processes) standards.

GoSilico – Biopharma 4.0

Digital simulation innovations, like digital twins of bio-manufacturing processes, allow biopharma professionals to better conceptualize various processes. Innovation areas for biopharma 4.0 range from drug discovery and development to manufacturing processes and packaging solutions. As a result, startups are looking for novel bio-based methods for pharma manufacturing.

German startup GoSilico enables the implementation of digital transformation for biopharma companies. The startup utilizes big data and AI so as to aid biopharma companies to make their operations more flexible, agile, and efficient. Creating digital twins of bioprocesses also allows for ‘in silico’ experimentation, which is relatively cheaper and faster.

Smart Factory – Automation System For Pharma Packaging

The pharma industry also requires efficient packaging operations, with minimal downtimes, to meet the growing demand for various drugs. With the help of automation, packaging machines trigger alerts for low hopper levels, weight mismatches, and other discrepancies. This drives emerging companies to work on solutions that increase productivity for pharma packaging companies.

Italian startup Smart Factory creates an automation system, Flexim, for pharmaceutical packaging. This open system is modular and consists of a common machine base. A maximum of twelve stations and one modular station is programable in this system, allowing for the automation of various processes. In addition, Flexim is cloud-based and fully re-programmable for the continuous monitoring and reporting of the production process.
