3DMediTech prints Critical Medical Supplies

The COVID-19 pandemic has affected global supply chains, and in turn, manufacturing and production as well. From semiconductors to food, manufacturers are scrambling to secure more reliable suppliers and vendors. In the healthcare industry, the shortage of ventilators, personal protective equipment (PPE), and other medical supplies directly result in the loss of life due to COVID-19. Startups take advantage of additive manufacturing techniques to increase the speed of medical supplies manufacturing and better serve the healthcare and hospital supply chains.

Australian startup 3DMediTech 3D prints ventilator parts, PPE, and other personal clinical devices. The startup addresses the shortage of medical equipment during the pandemic and supplies 10% of Australia’s COVID-19 test kits and swabs. 3DMediTech achieves this by employing its advanced rapid manufacturing technology to create 3D printed testing devices. The kits include a 3D printed sterile nasopharyngeal swab, viral transport medium, and a biohazard bag, packaged as ready-for-use by medical professionals.

SafetyNow provides a COVID-19 Safety Training System

Many global manufacturing plants and businesses are seeking ways to safely reopen their facilities. Adapting industrial workplaces to match COVID-induced regulations is often challenging, especially for big factories. This encourages startups to develop industrial safety training solutions for factory workers and facility managers. Such industry-specific solutions help manufacturers standardize their internal operations post-COVID and also allow them to restart their businesses in a safe manner.

SafetyNow is a US-based startup enabling manufacturing companies to reopen safely post-pandemic. The startup’s modules offer COVID-19 related solutions for numerous industry-specific safety and information. For example, employees are trained on the importance of social distancing and hand hygiene. Factory managers later track the progress of their employees’ courses through an online system. Moreover, the startup also offers modules on general manufacturing facilities’ occupational safety and health (OSH). Therefore, SafetyNow’s solution helps various manufacturing industries streamline their reopening plans.

Capit World offers Protective Visors for Businesses

The COVID-19 pandemic has exponentially increased the production and use of face masks. However, the mass production of masks for public use has created a problem of waste disposal. For big manufacturing facilities to resume their business-as-usual (BAU) activities, more sustainable solutions are required. To this end, startups develop PPE and other mass-manufactured supplies that utilize minimal materials, are reusable, and also protect users from viral infection at the workplace.

British startup Capit World manufactures one-size-fits-all clip-on face shields, suitable for use in a wide range of industries. Capit’s patented system protects wearers from viral diseases, such as COVID-19, entering through their eyes and mouth. Moreover, the face shield clips onto widely-used normal baseball caps. By using minimal raw materials, Capit is able to rapidly mass-manufacture their visors. With the aim of ensuring businesses of all sizes are able to protect their employees, the startup offers visor bundles from 25 units per set to 500 units per set.

DROR develops a Workplace Safety App

A big challenge for factory managers is adhering to social distancing regulations while still maintaining productivity on the shop floor. Conventional factories do not account for the personal space of employees, more often placing many workers into tight workspaces. Various activities of factory workers have to be redefined to ensure a safe and efficient industrial workplace during COVID-19. To address this challenge, startups develop smartphone apps that are easy to use and track for workers and managers, respectively.

Indian startup DROR develops its Workplace Safety App. The app equips human resource (HR) managers and C-suite executives in taking decisive action, if and when one of their employees contract COVID-19. DROR’s app enables occupancy management, safe distancing, contact tracing, and contactless attendance registers in factories. Further, the startup also installs contactless temperature machines to track employee health in real-time. Using the app, factories are able to create safe ecosystems for their workers and increase machine productivity during emergencies.

Clairvoyant Networks builds an AI-powered Cloud Platform

The COVID-19 pandemic has increased the demand for highly detailed spatial and directional data. Such information is vital to precisely track personnel and equipment in a manufacturing facility. By design, factories cluster people together in certain spaces to optimize the production process. However, using ultra-wideband (UWB) based imaging and data capture, startups offer an accurate and cloud-based solution for regulating and monitoring social distancing in industrial workplaces.

Based out of the US, Clairvoyant Networks is a startup building the Theora360 Cloud Platform by utilizing its UWB-based 3D tracking technology. The platform scales to cover small buildings and few people, or large campuses and hundreds of people, with equal precision. A 360-degree view provides spatial awareness of individuals and devices. For example, the AI-powered platform constantly learns and adapts based on data about movement, proximity, time, motion, and interactions to deliver proactive and reactive responses. The Theora360 Cloud Platform enables manufacturing facilities to increase revenue, optimize operations, and minimize risk arising due to COVID-19.
