Thermolabo develops Cold Chain Data Loggers

Both the packaging and logistics industries ship different products across locations and time zones. Safe and proper goods handling is the key to retain end-users and manufacturing customers. However, the challenge in product handling is pronounced when the temperature needs to be maintained, for example, for drugs or meat. Such products are vulnerable to temperature fluctuations and require constant monitoring during transportation. Startups incorporate advanced sensors and materials to achieve smart data loggers for cold chains.

French startup Thermolabo develops data loggers for multiple industries. The startup’s temperature and humidity monitoring solution, Sensolabo, features a data logger, a mobile app, and a cloud-based data management platform. It is compatible with cold chain packages and automatically transfers data wirelessly through near field communication (NFC) technology to a proprietary platform. Moreover, the data logger is compact, waterproof, and easy to slip into packages. The cloud-based platform provides the user with a dashboard to view temperature and humidity records in graphs.

Smashtag monitors Frozen Food

Handling and supply of food products are very important as exposure to heat or other external factors decreases the shelf life or even spoils the food. To avoid this and facilitate the proper storage and transport of frozen perishables, packaging companies are increasingly implementing data monitoring. Besides, manually logging data for fresh or perishable food is strenuous and prone to errors. Thus, to obtain error-free real-time data on the status of a package, startups are manufacturing durable data loggers.

British startup Smashtag offers wireless data loggers for monitoring temperature. The startup develops data loggers for temperature monitoring of cold chain food packages. The data logger connects from the package to other devices through Bluetooth. Also, Smashtag Chill logger monitors temperatures in the range of -15 ℃ to +65 ℃ and records up to 64,000 recordings. The collected data is sent to the proprietary Smashtag Chill app platform to record the temperatures and get notified in case of any abnormal temperatures. The data logger is used for wine, chocolate, and other food items. The data logger is waterproof and is used in frozen food package monitoring.

SenseAble builds Vaccine Data Loggers

Vaccines are manufactured in pharma biomanufacturing plants and are distributed to distant locations. The whole vaccine supply chain is sensitive to temperature, humidity, and pressure. Amidst the pandemic, and to tackle a number of endemic diseases, intelligent monitoring of the vaccine shipments becomes important. Startups and emerging companies are developing data loggers using advanced materials and software to enable effective tracking.

Indian startup SenseAble designs and develops data loggers for vaccine shipments. Using a temperature log for vaccines, the startup’s CoolSense system is equipped with internal sensors to monitor the condition of vaccines. The data logger has a long-lasting battery and ensures data security by providing users with private pins. The data logger connects wirelessly with the CoolSense android app or online platform. The app platform has a dashboard to visualize temperature data and recorded time. Also, CoolSense is a reusable temperature logger that enables users to reduce e-waste.

LIVETRACK provides Real-Time Data Logging

Transportation of biological materials is essential for clinical and life science research. Unlike other products, these are highly susceptible to even small changes and are prone to damage. Transporting these materials is currently expensive and requires careful handling and regular monitoring of temperature and humidity. To tackle this, startups are developing data loggers which monitor and send real-time data to a cloud platform.

Brazilian startup LIVETRACK offers sensors and data loggers to install in packages for various purposes. The sensor-based device monitors the temperature of a package and alerts users when temperature or humidity levels change, through their proprietary app. Livetrack’s data loggers find use in packaging, pouches, coolers, motorcycles, cars, or trucks. The data loggers have inbuilt batteries that do not require recharging. Also, the device reduces operational costs by alerting in case of any issue with the state of a package. The startup’s data loggers are compatible for use in the transportation of cosmetics, pharmaceuticals, food, and cargo boxes.

Escavox enables Fresh Food Tracking

With an increase in demand for pesticide-free fresh vegetables and other food supplies, retailers seek ways to ensure that the products are in good condition across the supply chain. To standardize the quality of food produce, regular monitoring of the harvest and logistics cycle is an important step. Moreover, this requires making informed decisions at every step of the supply chain. Startups are designing and offering versatile data logger solutions which are compatible with any type of package or box.

Australian startup Escavox provides data logger solutions for fresh food supply chains. The Escavox Blue Box tracker is placed in the vegetable or fruit carton to monitor timelines, temperature, and location. The startup uses analytical tools to combine time, temperature, and geographical data to visualize changes in the parameters, in real-time. This process enables cold chain transparency and, thereby, ensures a quality fresh food supply. This secure platform-based approach automates the tracking of products and operates as a channel to connect different stakeholders like farmers, suppliers, distributors, and retailers.
