Which startups develop the other 509 solutions?

Agrisim – Agricultural Decision Support System

For farmers with significant land, it is often a challenge to decide what to grow in which plots of land to maximize productivity throughout the season. An agricultural decision support system combines historical data, geospatial data, and forecasts to derive a farming plan to maximize yield and minimize the time that agricultural land stays unproductive.

Agrisim is a Dutch startup that offers a solution to optimize farm parcels. Once a farmer locates and maps their land parcels, Agirism’s solution cross-checks the climate and soil conditions of those locations with the ideal growing conditions of thousands of crops. It then suggests which crops to plant and when, as well as accounts for price and yield forecasts, to maximize revenues.

Hagtec – Soil Monitoring

The composition of the soil is crucial for plant growth and greatly affects the yield of the produce. Soil monitoring allows agronomists to optimize the soil conditions for the crop being grown. Different methods to gather soil data include soil microbiome analysis, aerial spectroscopic inspections, and sensors. Farmers later use tools that interpret these analyzes into actionable tips.

Serbian startup Hagtec provides an ag-tech solution that focuses on the problem of soil depletion. Their bioinformatics software, Acre Fx, combines chemical, biological, and physical analysis of soil with plant data to offer prescription farming. It monitors soil over multiple seasons and cuts down input losses.

Ujuzi Kilimo – Climate-Smart Farming

Climate change is disturbing weather patterns and negatively influencing agriculture across the globe, both with reduced yield and natural disasters. The brunt of its impact falls on the small farmers and those living in developing or poor countries. Agri-informatics based solutions that monitor weather patterns allow farmers to adopt smart farming techniques to counter a changing climate.

Ujuzi Kilimo is a Kenyan startup that works on solutions for climate-smart farming. After conducting a farm analysis, it provides location-specific weather updates. This helps farmers plan well for the season and avoid losses from bad weather. The startup’s solution uses machine learning to analyze farm data and offers actionable insights to the farmers.

Space – Irrigation Optimization

Water is a crucial resource in agriculture. Diverting water from necessary food grains to high-value cash crops is a contentious issue, particularly in drought-prone areas. Agri-informatics methods that facilitate irrigation optimization enable farmers to lower their water use, without any decrease in crop yield.

Peruvian startup Space offers solutions for the management of high-value crops. The startup combines drones and thermal cameras to optimize irrigation systems. Their solution analyzes irrigation variability and identifies plots with irrigation problems. It also detects irrigation leaks and structural problems in irrigation systems. Other solutions from the startup include labor management, farm management, as well as yield and volume forecasting.

FarmTRX – Yield Mapping

Yield mapping involves implementing georeferencing on crop yield data, along with agriculturally-relevant characteristics such as soil moisture or grain quality, while the crop is being harvested. Doing this annually allows temporal analysis to identify potentially high and low yield areas. Yield maps are crucial for precision agriculture and allow variable rate applications of fertilizers and pesticides.

FarmTRX is a Canadian startup that develops yield mapping solutions. Their retrofit yield monitor is easy to install on any combine and uses optical yield sensors to measure the height of each grain on each passing paddle. A mobile app displays live harvest data and uploads to a web-platform, where it automatically generates high-quality yield maps.
