Witrac develops 5G Positioning Solutions

Industry 4.0 is on the rise with many companies switching to digital equipment and processes that allow constant monitoring over a network. Among the industry 4.0 trends, a major focus is on indoor localization and position technologies. 5G networks allow for a greater level of accuracy and tracking within indoor environments. This is why startups are developing 5G enabled hardware for tracking and positioning solutions.

Spanish startup Witrac develops solutions that enhance the visibility of the industry 4.0 value chain. The startup’s range of IoT solutions includes a multi-protocol & hyperconnectivity device to enable 5G communication networks for indoor positioning and tracking. The communication products are designed to withstand high temperatures, electromagnetic interference, and other environmental factors. This allows their products to be integrated into a wide range of industry 4.0 applications in different environmental conditions.

Cerexio builds 5G Networks for Manufacturing Optimization

One of the main benefits of the advancements in industry 4.0 is the ability to virtually optimize processes from small-scale systems to entire factories. The continuous optimization of processes is dependent on the speed at which the data is collected from sources. This is why Industry 4.0 companies are transitioning to 5G networks as they move large volumes of data quickly and reliably at high speeds.

Singaporean startup Cerexio develops a proprietary manufacturing optimization system that uses 5G networks. The startup’s 5G networks enhance the function of big data tools through high speed, high bandwidth, and low latency data transfers. The solution benefits industrial practitioners by increasing the performances and sustenance of their manufacturing processes.

EdgeQ enables 5G Digital Twins

As industries move toward modernizing their equipment and processes, digital twins see an increase in use. They help in the design of entire smart factories, virtual design of equipment, and operational simulation. Digital twins utilize large amounts of information from various Internet of Things (IoT) and automation sensors. This allows digital twins to process the data to optimize factory processes through faster real-time operational simulations. The use of 5G in digital twin simulations enables the real-time processing of even larger amounts of data.

US-based startup EdgeQ manufactures a chip that combines AI processing with 5G communication technology. The startup’s solution consists of a single chip that contains all the 5G base station/access point functions while also maintaining a low level of power consumption. EdgeQ’s chip parallelizes computer vision and the low latency of 5G for Industry 4.0 use cases. This enables applications such as on-device defect and anomaly detection, fast remote warning, real-time insights, and more.

ZaiNar builds Location Tracking Tech

One of the barriers in the adoption and transition to 5G networks is the cost associated with the hardware infrastructure. Upgrading base stations and specialized 5G receivers place a financial burden on IT infrastructures. This limits Industry 4.0 companies from transitioning to 5G. To overcome this challenge startups are developing 5G solutions that use 3GPP protocols thereby removing the need to change or upgrade base stations.

US-based startup ZaiNar develops a 5G position system that uses 3GPP standards for communication. Its solution removes the need to change or modify base station hardware and enables the use of 5G location services with any 5G new radio (5G-NR) enabled device. Additionally, the spectrum bandwidth of its 5G can be repurposed for tracking a higher density of devices and other applications beyond positioning. The applications of ZaiNar’s technology go beyond manufacturing to vehicles, smart cities, drones, and more.

QuarkXR develops Extended Reality (XR) Cloud Software

Virtual environments are one of the emerging technological trends within industry 4.0. More manufacturing companies are using VR-based design and collaboration tools as part of remote work after the COVID-19 pandemic. However, low internet speed is a challenge for virtual collaboration. 5G introduces ultra-high-speed data transmission with little to no latency which makes XR applications more interactive.

US-based startup QuarkXR develops an ultra-fast, hardware-agnostic software solution for cloud XR applications. The startup’s software uses cloud-based GPU edge computing to offload the intensive processing. Using 5G, the software transmits large volumes of processed data at low latency to enable real-time interaction of external reality environments. The startup’s technology enables location-agnostic XR-based work collaboration that achieves the same or higher productivity as in-person meetings.

Aarna Networks develops 5G Cloud Orchestration Network

The main benefit of 5G is the transmission of large amounts of data at high speeds with low latency. This enables the collection of data from a large number of sensors and devices in a smart factory without any decline in network performance. However, as the number of systems increases, so does the complexity. This is why Industry 4.0 startups are developing orchestration solutions that improve the utilization of 5G network solutions.

Indian startup Aarna Networks specializes in creating orchestration solutions that use 5G and Edge Computing. Their solution called Aarna Networks Multi Cluster Orchestration Platform (AMCOP) is vendor-neutral and incorporates cloud-native network functions and cloud-native applications. AMCOP supports 5G RAN/O-RAN, 5GC orchestration, CM/PM/FM, network slicing, analytics, SON, and more. The 5G core orchestration has multiple applications in management and automation which can be allied to a wide range of industries including manufacturing.
