Remark Glass manufactures Sustainable Glass Products

Operating glass manufacturing units takes up significant energy and processing costs. Many manufacturing solutions focus on reducing operational costs to drive profit margins. That is why manufacturers are increasingly turning towards alternative energies to power their plants. To this end, startups develop innovative fuel converters that enable glass manufacturers to use alternative sources of energy to power their machinery.

The US-based startup Remark Glass is a certified zero-waste startup that manufactures sustainable glass products. All their products are handmade using locally sourced waste glass. Moreover, the startup’s vegetable oil converter reuses spent cooking oil from restaurants as fuel for glass manufacturing machinery. Their product portfolio includes glass straws, pitchers, and other glass products such as lighting and decor solutions.

Glastic combines Recycled Glass in its Products

The use of recycled glass enables the preservation of natural resources such as silica. Additionally, the cullet melts at lower temperatures in comparison to fresh raw material thus enabling energy savings for manufacturers. Moreover, governments across are looking for zero-waste and circular economy solutions, driven by a rapid rise in environmental concern. To this end, startups and scaleups develop glass products that comprise recycled glass.

Indian startup Glastic leverages 60% recycled glass in all its products. Additionally, the startup offers a complete end-to-end glass manufacturing solution from molds to production for press and blown glasses. This manufacturing process enables the startup to customize for any kind of specifications the customer requires. Additionally, the startup trades and supplies various kinds of glass tumblers, decoratives, and tableware.

iQ Renew manufactures Glass Sand

The high silica content in glass sand makes it an ideal substitute for mined sand in the manufacture of glass products. Moreover, the sand produced from crushed glass bottles is significantly stronger than the sand used in construction due to its high silica composition. Additionally, the use of glass sand in road laying enables better quality of roads that do not require repair and maintenance as often as the roads laid with normal sand.

Australian startup iQ Renew manufactures recycled glass sand to support the construction and civil engineering industries. The smooth surface and angular shape characteristics of glass sand provide unique benefits over sand alternatives and also make it an ideal drainage medium. Further, the startup offers patented engineered silica that is a plant nutrient and is used in soil enhancement. This product is available in both granule form and liquid form.

Aero Aggregates develops Ultra-Lightweight Foamed Glass Aggregates (UL-FGA)

The applications for foamed glass aggregates include green roof fill, slope stabilization, soccer stadiums, rooftop gardens, parking garage substrate, sub-slab insulation, and lightweight concrete fill. Additionally, the lightweight and high-friction surface of UL-FGA makes it a valuable resource in unstable soil conditions and tunnels. To this end, startups develop various kinds of FGAs to improve the durability of infrastructure.

The US-based startup Aero Aggregates develops ultra-lightweight foamed glass aggregates from post-consumer recycled glass. The startup’s aggregates have a highly frictional surface and, in combination with low unit weight, inertness, high permeability, and insulating properties, making UL-FGA an ideal lightweight backfill. Their UL-FGA finds applications in infrastructure construction projects that include lightweight embankments, load distribution platforms, and insulating subgrade, as well as lateral load reduction behind retaining walls and structures.

Evolution Glass manufactures Recycled Glass Products

Sustainable glass manufacturing involves the use of recycled crushed glass or cullet. Glass manufacturers look to reduce their environmental impact including air and water to increase the sustainability of the glass industry. As a result, emerging companies develop manufacturing solutions that make use of 100% recycled glass products as material inputs.

The US-based startup Evolution Glass produces surfaces and functional art objects that are made from 100% recycled bottle glass. The startup’s products are significantly stronger than marble and the raw materials include recycled beer bottles, pickle jars, and sauce containers. The startup’s product portfolio includes sustainable designs for conference tables, window sills, tabletops, bar tops, retail displays, reception desktops, work surfaces, backsplashes, and mantels.
