Myhelix delivers Consumer Nutrigenetics

In recent years, the rapid decline in the cost of DNA sequencing is opening up novel consumer genetics applications. Riding this trend, food startups develop various nutrigenomics solutions. Due to variations in metabolism, people metabolize nutrients differently. Such nutrigenomics solutions use genetic testing to determine the eligible type of food depending on the consumer’s genetic makeup.

Myhelix is a Ukrainian startup that develops consumer nutrigenetics solutions. The startup offers a direct-to-consumer (DTC) genetic test that analyzes which vitamins and minerals are easy to process for each consumer. It then recommends personalized, healthy diets based on the genetic composition. Moreover, it alerts the consumers about any predisposition to nutritional deficiencies.

Vieroots provides Gene-based Nutrition

Due to sedentary lifestyles and unhealthy eating habits, many urban consumers are at risk of lifestyle-related disorders like obesity. Personalized diet management plans factor in body type, activity levels, and other parameters. However, they do not account for genetic predisposition to diseases or the ability to process different food items. To bridge this gap, food startups offer gene-based nutrition plans.

Indian startup Vieroots offers gene-based nutrition. The startup’s solution combines genetic testing with a metabolomic assessment to create individualized nutrition plans. Further, the startup leverages nutrigenomics for research and development (R&D) into nootropics, mental health, and gut health. Going beyond which foods to take, it also suggests exercises that will benefit the consumers to complement the diet.

Vitl develops Personalized Supplements

As consumers and food brands become more health-conscious, the demand for nutritional supplements is increasing. Supplements help consumers compensate for nutritional deficiencies in the diet, as well as achieve their health goals. However, the one size fits all approach doesn’t often benefit all consumers. This is why food startups use nutrigenomics to design personalized supplements.

British startup Vitl develops personalized supplements. It creates at-home DNA nutrition and vitamin blood tests that allow the startup to tailor supplements to each customer. It also assesses information on the consumers’ existing diet, lifestyle, and health goals to further personalize the supplements. The supplements offer high bioavailability and are free of sugars and added preservatives.

DNA Nutricoach advances Nutritional Genomics

Nutrigenomics approaches allow food companies to analyze how dietary patterns modulate gene expression. By leveraging these insights, startups and scaleups offer solutions ranging from customized diets to food coaching. These solutions help consumers eat healthy to prevent the onset of diseases like obesity and coronary heart disease. To this end, startups leverage gene testing and bioinformatics to advance nutritional genomics.

DNA Nutricoach is a Spanish startup developing nutritional genomics solutions. The startup offers a genetic test and interprets its results to offer food coaching plans. Using evidence-based diets, the plans enable consumers to make progress towards their health goals. These diets generally aim to improve sleep, weight, athletic performance, and eating discipline, among other facets.

Bom Bom offers Individualized Pet Food

Some food companies generally sell very similar products for various breeds of dogs or cats. However, there is significant variation in the genetic composition of different breeds. This is why food startups are now using nutrigenomics-based approaches to provide precision nutrition for pets. It allows the development of pet food that meets the nutritional requirements depending on breed, life stage, and activity level.

Singaporean startup BOM BOM provides individualized pet food. Its R&D relies heavily on nutrigenomics to create scientifically balanced food products. The startup’s dog and cat food combine 9 different kinds of meats to provide wide nutritional coverage with all essential amino acids, vitamins, fats, and trace minerals. Moreover, the high bioavailability of the nutrients fortifies the immune system of the pets.
