Nanowired develops Nanowire Connection Technology

The use of nanowires is increasing in its importance over time, especially as technology and devices become smaller while achieving greater performance. Nanowires have diameters of less than 100 nanometers which makes them an exceptionally good conductor in applications such as quantum computing, optoelectronics, MEMS, and more.

German startup Nanowired specializes in nanowire connection technology which has a typical hair length of 25 nanometers and a diameter of 1 nanometer. The startup’s nanowire process requires only a single substrate to be prepared with nano wiring at a temperature of 210°C. Their use of metals such as copper, gold, or nickel makes their connection technology superior electrical and thermal conductivity compared to conventional connection technologies.

Instrumems offers Environmental Nanowire Sensors

The development of the Internet of Things (IoT) technology has resulted in large amounts of data being collected from a multitude of sensors. This data is not limited to simple hardware solutions or devices such as smoke detectors for home use but also in industries such as automotive, where cabin sensors collect data about the environment inside the vehicle. Even more critical applications such as natural gas production facilities use sensors to collect and monitor data for even the most minute changes in the environment.

The US-based startup Instrumems develops a nanowire sensor to track velocity, temperature, and humidity at high frequencies, ranging from 10kHz to 100kHz. The use of nanowires for measurement allows for high-resolution data to be captured in a compact form factor. Their nanowire sensors are designed to keep pace with rapid developments in other industries and technologies which require equally fast and efficient data gathering.

Enwires provides Nanowire Batteries

Electric vehicles (EVs) and the miniaturization of electronics are driving the innovation of battery technology towards higher capacity and performance. Silicon nanomaterials are being used to develop advanced batteries that are meeting the demand required, by utilizing high performance and composite materials. These materials are able to overcome traditional limitations in size restrictive battery applications.

French startup Enwires is a manufacturer of silicon nanowire-based materials primarily for their utilization in the battery industry. Their proprietary production processes enable them to produce silicon nanowires on a large-scale while minimizing the cost of production. The batteries developed using their nanowires are capable of >2.000 mAh/g with more than >2.000 charging cycles. Their battery designs are fully compatible with existing Lithium-Ion Battery (LIB) production lines.

Aligned Bio develops Nanowire Biomarker Detection

The measurement of biomarkers is receiving a significant boost with wearable device manufacturers implementing digital biomarker functions in their devices to track user’s health and wellness. The growth in digital biomarkers is also an indirect increasing lab-based biomarker research and development which is leading to newer biomarker discovery and potentially new digital biomarkers.

Swedish startup Aligned Bio specializes in the development and supply of customizable sensor platforms for biomedical applications. Their biomarker detection uses a patented nanowire waveguide technology to achieve higher sensitivity in biomarker discovery and detection. The goal of their nanowire waveguide technology is to provide researchers and developers a platform to detect diseases and their subsequent prevention and therapeutic monitoring.

Nanocnet creates Silver Strands

Devices are becoming progressively smaller, hence their components need to be smaller and more advanced too. Traditional materials cannot achieve the necessary characteristics such as higher conductivity while minimizing the heat generated. This is where startups & scaleups come in to develop advanced silver nanowires and silver nanoparticles to resolve the challenge.

Canadian startup Nanocnet develops Nano Silver Strands to replace conventional silver nanowires and nanoparticles. The one-dimensional materials have higher durability to thermal and electrical stress with superior conductivity to carbon nanofibers. These materials achieve this without creating any changes or deviations to the base substrate or material. Industrial applications such as flexible circuit boards, displays, solar panels, smart glasses, biosensors, and more can implement Nanocnet’s silver strands.
