Spartan Radar enables Biometric Perception

Founding Year: 2020
Location: Los Alamitos, US
Funding: USD 25 M
Partner for Autonomous Vehicles

US-based startup Spartan Radar develops radar technology with enhanced environmental perception capabilities. The startup’s Biometric Radar integrates situational awareness in all scenarios and weather conditions by processing large quantities of data. Moreover, the solution identifies the importance of objects and handles outliers. Current autonomous vehicles use a combination of cameras, lidar, and radar as well as sensor fusion hardware and software for autonomous vehicle operation. However, the collection, combination, and processing of vast amounts of data requires very high computing power and a longer time for processing and executing actions. Spartan Radar overcomes this limitation by improving the range, resolution, and detection of radar sensors for autonomous vehicle applications.

SGR Semiconductors provides Automotive Radar Systems

Founding Year: 2016
Location: Shanghai, China
Collaborate for Automotive Sensors

Chinese startup SGR Semiconductors specializes in the production of millimeter-wave radar chips for the automotive industry. Compared to other environmental perception systems such as lidar or cameras, radar offers a better range and functionality in low visibility conditions. For these reasons, automotive vehicle manufacturers are implementing radar systems in advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS) for autonomous vehicles. The startup manufactures a series of 24 GHz and 77 GHz millimeter-wave radar chips including a 24 GHz radar system-on-chip (SOC) for automotive radar systems. The startup’s radar-based blind spot detection module uses one transmitter and two receivers to enable autonomous vehicle functions even during bad weather conditions.

Microbrain offers Lane Change Assistance

Founding Year: 2017
Location: Changsha, China
Partner for Lane Changing, Traffic Detection

Chinese startup Microbrain manufactures short-range radar sensors for applications in lane change assistance. Long-range radar, although highly useful for autonomous vehicle perception, creates problems for short-range applications such as lane changing due to the high possibility of interfering signals from various objects. Microbrain overcomes this by using short-range radar sensors for their ADAS. The startup’s CAR-B50 product is a millimeter-wave radar that provides early warning of dangerous targets in adjacent lanes. In addition, the sensor provides blind spot detection (BSD), door open warning (DOW), active overtaking alarm (AOA), and rear cross-traffic alerts (RTCA). The startup facilitates these functions to operate in all-weather conditions including smoke, fog, and dust.

Axon Pulse offers an AI-based Radar Perception Engine

Founding Year: 2019
Location: Tel Aviv, Israel
Funding: USD 4,6 M
Work with Axon Pulse for Automotive Radar Signal Processing

Israeli startup Axon Pulse develops an AI-based radar perception engine that utilizes deep neural networks for radio frequency (RF) signal processing. Some of the barriers to autonomous vehicles are the size and weight of sensing equipment as well as the computing elements needed to process environmental data. The startup’s software solution thus reduces the amount of hardware required and improves radar resolution, sensitivity, and target separation. Besides, it integrates into vehicle digital control units, thereby reducing time to market and development costs.

Sencept provides 4D Radar Sensors

Founding Year: 2018
Location: Stockholm, Sweden
Reach out for Autonomous Vehicle Operations

Swedish startup Sencept develops 4D scanning radar sensors for autonomous vehicle operations. The low lighting conditions along with the constant presence of dust and debris within mines increase the risk of collision between personnel and machines. To avoid collisions and improve the efficiency of operations, Sencept automates mining vehicles using radar sensors. The startup’s radar sensors find application in autonomous mining vehicles by providing reliable and high-resolution radar that reduces downtime and increases productivity. The startup’s 4D imaging radars visualize and classify objects on the road in all types of lighting and weather conditions, including in the dust and darkness of mines.
