Tweedle builds AI to Eradicate Recruitment Bias

AI increasingly enables companies to identify the right candidates more accurately than human recruiters. However, using AI for recruitment is currently facing criticism for not being inclusive and diverse in design. This encourages startups and social organizations to devise techniques that will eliminate racial bias, along with other forms of discrimination, while hiring.

British social-impact startup Tweedle brings together leaders from business, technology, and academia to build an AI that guarantees to eradicate all bias during the entire recruitment process. Tweedle is building an AI layer that proactively prevents both conscious and unconscious bias during the recruitment process. This empowers human resource (HR) managers to plan their diversity strategy proactively instead of spotting imbalances after the process.

OUNA enables Anonymous Recruitment

The data-driven techniques that AI employs in recruitment tools help companies and brands remove racial bias in hiring. For example, while an HR professional looks at various factors in a resume, they do not realize their own inherent biases and perceptions. AI, on the other hand, focuses only on the data by ignoring human perceptions of stereotypes and prejudices. Further, such anonymity pushes the right candidates to the top regardless of their gender or race. This provides a strong base for companies looking to diversify their selection processes.

OUNA is an Israeli startup that provides an anonymous recruitment tool. It optimally matches the talents and characteristics of an applicant to the best fitting position, while maintaining full anonymity. First, potential candidates complete the Ounalyzer, a validated online assessment based on the Pyramidal Assessment Model that uses 12 parameters and 40 skills to develop a candidate’s profile. Almost simultaneously, employers use the same tool to key in their preferences for candidates. OUNA then matches candidates with employers to ensure long-term engagement. Moreover, OUNA’s technology encourages bias-free recruitment. It fights against discrimination based on gender, race, religion, sexual orientation, national origin, age, or disability.

Talenya develops a Diverse-Talent Sourcing Tool

Many employers complain that though they actively seek diverse candidates, they don’t seem to have access to people from diverse backgrounds. Structural racism or systemic exclusion make relevant recruitment platforms inaccessible. This further prevents diverse and marginalized communities to successfully participate in the hiring process. This further drives emerging social enterprises and startups to build job portals dedicated to diversity and inclusivity.

US-based startup Talenya develops a novel diversity engine, Diversity AI, that recommends specific changes to job requirements that are likely to increase diverse-talent participation in recruiting pipelines. Diversity AI creates slightly altered versions of candidates’ job requirements. This allows candidates to find the version that provides the most diverse and inclusive description for the role. Moreover, Talenya employs simple solutions to tackle inherent biases. For instance, it hides any photos, videos, or names that may offer hints about a person’s physical and perceived characteristics.

Hibob creates HR solutions for Culture Management

Especially in big companies, a sudden push for diversity can cause a clash of cultures and practices. Traditionally, employees engage on a personal level with only a few people, giving them a good understanding of certain colleagues but not others. However, to truly integrate diverse cultures and practices in a company, more personal information about the employees should be made available. The big challenge here is to keep in mind the related intrusion of privacy. Given the sensitive nature of this task, startups develop tools that enable companies to effectively manage their diverse teams.

Hibob is a US-based startup creating Core HR, a culture management tool. The HR process automation tool impacts all aspects of recruitment and hiring, including managing diversity and inclusivity. Core HR enables companies to review feedback and performances based on, for example, gender identities to figure out areas to improve. This also allows companies to educate their employees about the diversity of the company, fostering better understanding and growth within teams.

Honeit provides ‘Blind’ Candidate Previews

Companies are looking for ways to eliminate racial biases during HR interviews. Often, the way a person speaks and their presentation creates strong first impressions on the recruiters. This results in perfectly capable candidates being overlooked while the ones with the best impressions make it. Social technology startups work on various simple and effective ways to upgrade to an inclusive interviewing process.

US-based startup Honeit provides technology-driven solutions to screen and submit candidates in a few clicks. The startup’s tool converts interview conversations into insights to prevent employers from missing any information. Further, users have to click a ‘bias button’ to remove names, photos, resumes. This enables sharing blind candidate previews that only showcase domain knowledge and communication.
