Which startups develop the other 107 solutions?

Field Factors – Circular Urban Water Systems

In cities, it becomes essential to manage water to meet the needs of various businesses, households, and large events. All over the world, people associate water storage with tanks and concrete structures. With looming water shortages, innovative storage solutions play a key role in improving both access to and quality of water. Startups are working on solutions that collect and store rainwater for later use.

Dutch startup Field Factors is working on an integrated circular water management solution using its proprietary Bluebloqs system. This modular system combines biofiltration with aquifer storage technologies to treat, store, and reuse rainwater. The storage component of Field Factor’s solution employs infiltration and recovery wells to store water in layers of sand, deep in the subsurface. Later, this water is available for reuse in irrigation or other industrial processes. It is also suitable for sporting venues and public spaces.

Sana Al Barq Electrical – Water Tank Level Monitoring System

Water tanks or structures are ubiquitous today, with households and businesses alike facing challenges in preventing water wastage resulting from tank overflows. Advancements in the internet of things (IoT) enable all water-using entities to accurately monitor their storage tanks and make informed decisions while operating water motors. In addition to reducing water waste, IoT also helps in tracking water usage, allowing users to modify their behavior and save more water.

Jordanian startup Sana Al Barq Electrical offers iTank, an IoT-based tank level monitoring system for water and other liquids. iTank is an analytics platform that enables agricultural and industrial processes, businesses, and households to remotely monitor their water tanks using a smartphone or web-based application. The iTank sensors operate over the WiFi to send tank-related data to users, with the help of their cloud-based platform. The iTank sensors are also capable of measuring water levels in tanks of different shapes and sizes, unlike existing sensors that work well only in rectangular tanks.

Agrismart – Flexible Water Storage Tanks

The conventional water tanks in use today require regular maintenance and often, water is wasted during the cleaning process. Further, when tanks are not well-maintained, it results in the formation of algae and other weeds that further deteriorate the quality of water. Startups are working on ways to solve these wastage and quality challenges by innovating in different, flexible form factors for water storage tanks.

British startup Agrismart focuses on the agriculture sector to innovate and solve significant challenges. The startup provides water storage solutions as part of its efforts to improve farm inputs. One such innovation includes a suite of bladder tanks that offer many benefits over traditional rigid water storage tanks. Agrismart offers industrial-grade polyethylene-based bladder tanks, collapsible, and temporary. These tanks are also suitable for diluting chemicals, fertilizer storage, fire prevention, food waste, and wastewater and effluent storage.

Blackbuck Resources – Water Storage For Oil & Gas

After irrigation, water is most widely used for energy production, especially in the oil and gas industry. For example, in hydraulic fracturing of oil wells, refining oil and gas, and also to produce electricity in some natural gas power plants. All of these processes require efficient water storage and management, at the production sites. Given the variability in the quality of water during the extraction of oil and gas, startups are working to optimize, and reuse water for the industry.

The US-based startup Blackbuck Resources provides optimized water midstream services for oil and gas exploration and production (E&P) operators. The startup builds, designs, and operates water infrastructure for oil and gas companies. Blackbuck Resources manage water storage ponds and provide technical expertise to ensure consistent water quality. The startup utilizes proprietary aeration technology to enable efficient water preservation.

Rosemark Water Tanks – Outdoor Lounge Tank

Increasingly, as the density and congestion in bigger cities squeeze the real estate, consumers seek out novel smart city solutions. From smart home systems to smart furniture, startups are rapidly developing highly integrated solutions for city-dwellers. Innovative water storage systems blend design, functionality, and IoT sensors to offer smart multi-purpose solutions.

Australian startup Rosemark Water Tanks specializes in water storage tanks. The startup’s novel Lounge Tank is an outdoor lounge, or sofa, with a storage capacity of 500 liters. The water tank and the fabric for the cushions are both ultraviolet (UV)-stabilized and water-proof, ensuring that the Lounge Tank is a fully outdoor solution. This solution significantly minimizes the amount of light inside the tanks and, in turn, does not allow algae to grow and contaminate the water.
