Stylaero – Magnetic Tracking For Tissue Imaging

Sensor fusion combines data from different sensors to achieve better accuracy in decision making. In healthcare, with the help of a magnetometer, magnetic fields track and measure tissue parameters. Data generated when magnetic fields collide fuse 3D images and transmit data in real-time. As a result, medical professionals derive insights to perform surgeries with clinical precision.

Sweden-based startup Stylaero develops solutions using sensor fusion. The startup creates 3D images of patients’ tissues for digital pathology monitoring. To achieve this, a magnetic scalpel measures the circumference of the tissue. Additionally, fused data is transmitted in real-time to be processed as 3D imaging. Equipped with better insights, medical professionals have more chances to provide the right diagnosis at the right time.

Plus AI – 360-Degree Sensing For Logistics

In the logistics industry, application areas for sensor fusion vary from RFID tracking in warehouses to temperature-controlled transportation and self-driving vehicles. Sensor fusion data combines data from RADAR, LiDAR, and live camera footage to provide self-driving vehicles with more accurate information. Through the fused data from the sensors, self-driving systems make better decisions when it comes to braking and parking assists and thus help reduce accidents.

The US-based startup Plus AI offers a 360-degree vision for self-driving trucks. By using RADAR, LiDAR, and camera footage, the range of obstacle detection increases to 1.600 meters. Consequently, self-driving trucks make timely decisions regarding safety on their own.

AI Motive – Advanced Driver-Assistance Systems (ADAS)

Advanced driver-assistance systems use sensor fusion by collecting relevant data from various sensors placed in vehicles, including proximity, humidity, thermal, and moisture sensors. Sensor-fusing the data allows artificial intelligence (AI) to make better driving decisions. Moreover, sensor fusion-powered neural network accelerators strengthen the robustness of ADAS and further autonomous functions.

The Hungarian startup AI Motive develops a gateway neural network, called aiWare, which facilitates sensor fusion to maximize the offload in the central processing cluster of a car. This, in turn, enhances ADAS functionalities and enables ADAS systems to engage the breaks well in advance in case the system detects an obstruction.

Reivr – Edge-Based Real-Time Location System For Hospitals

In the healthcare industry, keeping a track of movable assets is as important as hygiene. Each asset and patient is tagged with a sensor-readable tag. Multiple sensors at strategic positions scan, capture, and triangulate the position of the tag. This helps identify the location of the tagged asset or patient based on the movement and, in addition, monitor them as well.

The Irish startup Reivr builds an edge-based real-time location system for hospitals with the same name. Using sensor fusion the solution generates a 3D digital twin of a location, based on the movement of the tagged asset, such as beds and portable life support systems, for example. Moreover, sensor fusion improves supply chain visibility and helps reduce the underutilization of resources.

Alteria Automation – High-Sensitivity Thermal Sensors For Manufacturing

In the manufacturing industry, equipment requires continuous monitoring. Smart sensor-fused networks help monitor industrial equipment at a minute level to understand and counteract efficiency losses. Moreover, sensor fusion helps with predictive maintenance which improves overall manufacturing efficiency.

The US-based startup Alteria Automation uses a range of sensors to aggregate their data into a smart sensor network. This network then assists industrial robots in gathering actionable insights about various types of equipment in production. In addition, it provides data on efficiency and material deterioration. As a result, manufacturers reduce costs and increase output.
