Nexiot – Information Security
As more and more machines, equipment and facilities become connected, the threat of information theft or sabotage also rises. The vast amounts of electronic data collected by smart factories should be protected against unauthorized use. Startups provide specialized and customizable cybersecurity solutions for industry 4.0.
Indian startup Nexiot develops security solutions for the Internet of Things (IoT). They provide implementation & certification for Information Security Management Systems (ISMS), Vulnerability Assessment & Penetration Testing (VAPT ), and security audits across the IoT stack.
Cybus – Transparent Configuration
Whenever a system accesses external networks, the potential for unintentional or intentional exposure of sensitive data is a risk. Factories usually use the IoT services provided by various providers depending on the purpose and affordability, exposing them to external networks, which can later cause problems for the factory. Enabling transparency in how the data is stored in the cloud helps secure the data when it is connected to external clouds.
German startup Cybus develops ConnectWare, an Industrial IoT solution that acts as a separator between sensitive production networks, internal, and external IT-systems. In the factory, it collects data from field devices. In the cloud, it is encrypted with MQTT API, an IoT protocol for machine-to-machine connectivity, and isolates individual containers for pre-processing, and pushes connectivity to databases, clouds or other IT-systems.
CyberX – Industrial Control System Security
Industrial Control Systems (ICS) is a set of devices, systems, networks, and controls used to operate industrial processes. Advancements in automation technologies mean these ICS are also shifting to automation.
The US-based startup CyberX develops a suite of ICS security services with their ICS Malware Analysis Sandbox. They offer an innovative cloud-based subscription service that identifies OT (Operational Technology)-specific malware, including zero-day malware, by executing suspicious files in a virtualized OT environment.
Veracity – Industrial Network Security
In any industrial network, systems are continuously managed in an attempt to stay ahead of evolving cyber threats, but these methods often conflict with the network’s core requirements of reliability and availability. Startups are finding innovative solutions to secure the industrial networks while allowing the systems to be dynamic when faced with a threat or even an attack.
The US-based startup Veracity develops INDUSTRIAL SDN, an industrial network platform that improves the reliability, efficiency, and security of industrial networks and devices, without adding another layer of complexity to the network. Their platform is a secure-by-default network that moves beyond the detection and alerting of cyber events into a network that reduces the attack surface by design.
