RIOS Intelligent Machines develops Sorting Robots

Sorting food items of variable packaging, size, texture, and volume is a cumbersome process at warehouses. When manually executed, the processes take time and are error-prone. Therefore, food technology startups provide automated solutions to intelligently sort items and place them in their respective bins using advanced robotics and artificial intelligence (AI).

US-based startup RIOS Intelligent Machines offers picking, sorting, and placing robots for different food items. The robots are specifically useful for picking and sorting breakable food items like chips and eggs. Their RIOS DX-1 is a full-stack multi-purpose dexterous robot that interacts with objects in both static and dynamic applications, such as bin picking and moving conveyor belts. The robot also works in changing warehouse environments and automatically adjusts to complex manipulation tasks. Apart from this, RIOS Intelligent Machines provides factory automation-as-a-service solutions for the food industry.

Smart Robotics provides Palletizing Cobots

With the increasing demand for food distribution and delivery, the demand for faster loading and unloading of groceries is also rising. Manual loading and unloading may lead to injuries to workers and overall slow execution. Therefore, startups develop automated palletizing solutions using advanced robotics and cobots.

Smart Robotics is a Dutch startup that offers Smart Palletizer, a compact end-of-line cobot for flexible palletizing of food products. With their lightweight structure and 3D printed grippers, the palletizer stacks boxes up to 8 kilograms. It also comes with an intelligent software to handle a variety of objects irrespective of shape and size. The Smart Palletizer handles a variety of stacking patterns and tailors to any factory setup while cooperating safely with employees.

Mrrobotics offers Storage and Handling Robots

To automate the storage of food and grocery items in racks, startups develop storing and handling robots. Such robots carry heavy goods with care and also rack them with great precision and accuracy. This saves a lot of manual labor, time, and, hence, cost to the company.

Chinese startup Mrrobotics develops Latent Mobile Robot, a proprietary storage and handling robot. The robot relies on autonomous route planning and a 360-degree rotational view to easily move food items. It also equips itself with a rotary jacking system that moves the food racks from the warehouse storage area to the designated location, thereby, automating carrying tasks. The robot provides positional accuracy of up to 10 millimeters and positional angle accuracy of 1 degree, in turn, offering a precise and reliable racking solution.

Fabric enables Automated Grocery Fulfilment

Timely delivery and the freshness of the product are the critical aspects of grocery fulfillment. At the same time, the staff should be careful in forwarding each item as improper handling may damage the product. Replacing human labor with robots facilitates efficient handling of food products as well as improves warehouse management since it increases accuracy and reduces food wastage. For instance, robotic automation at fulfillment centers streamlines storage and movement, which directly impacts order processing.

Fabric is a US-based startup that offers online, automated grocery fulfillment for same-day and on-demand deliveries. The startup’s micro-fulfillment centers combine advanced robotics and AI to automate grocery picking and packaging. As a result, once the user places an order, the entire operation completes within a few minutes. This allows farmers and food businesses to bring their products closer to the customer as well as offers better inventory visibility to boost customer satisfaction.

Pick8ship Technology offers Multi-Purpose Warehouse Robots

Many food-grade warehouses are yet to integrate robots to automate repetitive tasks due to their high initial costs. This is primarily because of the complex installations and configurations that come along with such systems. To tackle this, startups now offer scalable and modular robotic systems that allow warehouse managers to stack up the systems as required to achieve operational requirements. This facilitates robotic integration while improving warehouse performance.

Swiss startup Pick8ship Technology develops multi-purpose robots for warehouses. Combined with the startup’s smart container system, the robots automate tasks such as sorting and picking. Besides, the solution follows a modular design that enables users to scale their operations without hectic configurations. This allows grocery retailers, last-mile services, and eCommerce companies to optimize space management while reducing the time per order. In addition, Pick8ship Technology provides a cloud operating system to manage these systems.
