Gini offers DNA-Based Diets

Nutrigenomics is the study of nutrition and a person’s genes. Nutritional genomics examines and analyzes how nutrients impact genes, how genes impact reactions to specific nutrients, and why bodies may be struggling with detoxing or metabolizing. It is a one time test as genes do not change during our lifetime. Understand one’s genetic profile helps to make informed choices about food alternatives.

The Canadian personalized nutrition startup Gini develops a personalized health tracker for DNA based nutrition, exercise & mealtime goals. The company provides a testing kit and analyzes data; after receiving the results, Gini functions as a guide that identifies the optimal nutrition sources for a specific genetic profile.

Pinto makes a Nutrition-Tracking App

Personalized nutrition isn’t always the response to a person’s biological information. People follow their own food preferences or choose a type of diet for some time or based on their needs (for example the vegan diet, gluten-free food, diabetes menu, etc.). Special programs give people a wide range of information about ingredients and their value. They also work based on barcodes or analyzing food photos, and provide info on how much the selected products fit a person’s profile.

Pinto, a US-American startup, builds a nutrition-tracking app that helps to track a specific diet or other individual nutritional objectives. Users insert information about the food they are going to eat or that they have already eaten and the application shows how this food item fits within the selected nutrition goals through a color-based signal.

GUTXY improves Microbiome & Gut Health

Each individual has their own microbiome that consists of bacteria, viruses, fungi, archaea, etc., living in and on the human body. The gut microbiome plays a big role in maintaining one’s health, aiding in digestion, nutrient absorption, and immune responses. The composition of each person’s gut microbiota plays a big role in how people respond to food items and also indicate which foods are critical to maintain & improve health. As gut microbiota is not stable and continuously changes, it makes sense to provide testing periodically to monitor changes, track results and correct diet recommendations if needed.

The Danish personalized nutrition company GUTXY provides a service that analyzes the microbiome to optimize individuals’ dietary and lifestyle choices. The company offers tailored nutrition recommendations and identifies which foods are specifically beneficial for someone’s general health.

FoodMarble makes Smart Testing Devices for Digestion Tracking

Startups already offer multiple choices of self-testing technologies that all have a different purpose – from medical testing to general well being and health monitoring. The sphere of personalized nutrition is not an exception – different analyses catch the body’s response on the spot depending on the food one consumes.

The Irish startup FoodMarble creates AIRE, a personal digestive tracker. The tracker consists of a hand-held breath analysis device and an associated app that is based on techniques used in gastroenterology. AIRE helps people suffering from digestive discomfort to track how they respond to different foods and optimize their diet to eliminate this discomfort.

LSee enables Biomarkers-Based Nutrition

Personalized nutrition recommendations based on blood biomarkers provide information considering the metabolic or physiological efficiency at the moment of measuring, showing the impact of changes to lifestyle, including exercise and nutrition.

LSee, a French startup, works on a metabolic tracker device and a mobile application that analyzes specific biomarkers with a single drop of blood. The results are transferred to the smartphone via Bluetooth and the application then shows tailored nutrition and sports recommendations based on a person’s own metabolism.
